Go deep on the mezcal, we do when we go there, which is why we can’t really remember any of the dishes to recommend. Cala – Contemporary Mexican food with a massive mezcal and tequila selection, this ain’t your mom’s Del Taco hard shell taco family night. Sit at the bar if you can, the kitchen crew is awesome and watching them cook will give you a sense of culinary inadequacy. Al’s Place – The vibe here is not unlike that of Frances, and the food is of a similar vein – next-level Californian with a menu that changes daily.
Serving locally-sourced modern Californian food, the menu changes daily, and you order wine by the carafe and only pay for what you drink. Also, they have a very solid Belgian beer selection on draft.įrances – This cozy little pocket of a restaurant is just a few blocks from our apartment, tucked away on quiet 17th Street. Anyway, Mama Ji makes authentic home-style Szechuan food and Dim Sum, and the Chongqing Chicken and Shanghai Dumplings are must-haves. Who doesn’t like Chinese food? That’s crazy. Lauren doesn’t even like Chinese food and this is one of her favorites. Mama Ji’s – This Szechuan restaurant is one of San Francisco’s best hidden gems.
